Ms. Lawless attended the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1983. Ms. Lawless trained as a Medical Technologist at St. Mary’s Hospital in Quincy, Illinois, and worked as a MT(ASCP) for several years. In 1993, Ms. Lawless completed a two-year Pathologists’ Assistant training program at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, and received a Master of Health Science degree.
Ms. Lawless is an active member of the AAPA, the only national association exclusively for Pathologists’ Assistants. She has been a contributor to the AAPA Quarterly Newsletter since 1996 and served as Newsletter Editor from 2000 to 2008. At the annual AAPA meeting in 2008, Ms. Lawless was honored with the 2008 AAPA Board of Trustees Award. She continues to volunteer with the AAPA Education and Newsletter Committees.
A native Illinoisan, Ms. Lawless is an avid reader and enjoys travel vacations and digital imaging projects. In 1996, Ms. Lawless won a trip to Ixtapa, Mexico, for her 2nd place finish on the Jeopardy! game show. She and her husband live on a rural property where they host an annual pig roast for family and friends.
